My Hot List: August Edit

A selection of my favorite, practical yet stylish, feel good finds of the month, hoping to offer the inspiration you need.

THE POCHETTE: Bleecker & Love
Nothing beats a practical, yet stylish present, like the multi-purpose Bleecker & Love cotton pochettes that I was gifted just before summer. I have been using them as a wash bag, a make-up bag or even as a going out evening pouch. Also, their waterproof lining allowed worry-free storage for my sunscreen and wet bikinis.

THE MIST: Caudalie Beauty Elixir
The Caudalie Beauty Elixir was love at first spritz and it has proved my perfect, refreshing companion during many heatwaves, since then. This revitalizing mist is brimming with essential oils and plant extracts, including the brand’s hero ingredient, green grape. A quick spritz instantly refreshes my face. It's also handy for setting my make-up and keeping it looking great for longer!
#Tip Keep it in the fridge during the summer for an instant cooling mist!

THE SANDAL: Birkenstock sandals
When it comes to shoes, I am usually open to trying the sensible and insensible ones. But I was not overwhelmed with joy when I heard about the return of the “ugly shoe” trend. Despite my long-time hate affair with the double strap sandal, I introduced the rubber Birks into my life last summer and this summer I invested in the Arizona suede slip-ons because they are so freakin’ light and comfy!
#Tip Having a fresh pedicure is a must to elevate the Birkenstock shoe trend!

3 Glow Givers To Try Now

Who does not want a radiant, glowing complexion at any age? Here are 3 of my go-to radiance boosters and glow givers for achieving a lit-from-within glow!
Picture

Pixi Glow Tonic
First things first, a glowing make-up look starts with good skin prep. It is little wonder the exfoliating toner, Pixi Glow Tonic, has a huge following all over the world, including myself, as it removes any dead skin cells lingering on your skin’s surface, reduces inflammation, minimizes blackheads and leaves behind smooth, bright,  baby-soft skin, without feeling overly harsh. It’s a simple step to add to your skincare routine, that makes a huge difference for a healthier-looking glow.

#tip Since Pixi Glow Tonic gets its glow-boosting powers mainly from glycolic acid, which can make skin more susceptible to sun damage; I religiously follow with an SPF and would only use it at night during the summer.

Erborian Glow Crème
Erborian is my favorite Korean brand and I swear by its Glow Crème for its high-tech, multi-benefit formula that helps to improve the appearance of your skin, so it looks luminous and soft. Enriched with Licorice extract, Glow Crème helps to brighten, beautify and moisturize, while also helping to smooth the skin. Brimming with subtle pearl pigments, it gives a radiant glow without sliding around. I love its silky smooth texture and lightweight, fast absorbing formula.

#tip Mix it with your foundation for a subtle sheen, tap it over your make up as a highlighter for a luminous effect, or on no make-up days apply a fine layer to your face, just like your daily moisturizer, for keeping a radiant complexion that looks youthful and fresh.

 NARS Multiple in Orgasm
Come summertime, my make-up routine scales down dramatically, and this multi-purpose make-up stick fits seamlessly into my pared-back summer make-up bag. NARS Multiple is perfect for highlighting, sculpting, and warming the eyes, cheeks, lips, and body. The peachy-pink tone that I have chosen has the perfect amount of skin-flattering golden shimmer leaving a seductively sheer, natural finish with a lightweight, non-greasy feel. Its wonderfully creamy formula melts seamlessly into the skin and begs to be smoothed onto my face wet or dry, using a damp brush or just my fingertips. So, easy and quick!

This is my edit of my favorite Greek small businesses and independent brands whose values and designs not only evoke a strong sense of community, but also joy, meraki and craftsmanship.

WAKS

With Easter fast approaching, whether it’s creating a beautiful table setting for dining or looking for an elegant Easter candle for the church, WAKS is your go-to Greek brand for candles. Hand-poured and hand-packaged in a small production facility in Athens, WAKS candles are crafted with Greek-ness and sustainability at their core. WAKS candles are made of a blend of soya and beeswax; they have a 100% cotton wick, while Greek traditional crafts and clay-making techniques inspire their vessels and pots. Their glass, ceramic or wooden containers have been designed with upcycling in mind, as they can be reused around the house and the garden, while also being refillable. Comprised of comforting and indulgent lasting scents designed to uplift, refresh, rejuvenate and calm, WAKS candles are so reasonably priced. This Easter WAKS candles have joined forces with the jewelry brand Hermina Athens to create a limited edition of rustic Easter candles featuring a silver eye charm, that’s bound to sell out.

In the strange and disconcerting times of the corona virus pandemic, podcasts have served me as a great source of escapism, solace, educational and portable entertainment. I love to dip in and out of podcasts while walking to work, sitting in waiting rooms and queues, cooking or sunbathing.

3 Feel Good Podcasts To Listen To

We could all do with a positive boost right now! Here are three of my favorite Greek feel good podcasts, which are quite different in style, but what they do have in common is a strong host personality and a positive outlook in life.
Picture
#giatioxi
Hosted by the first Greek female, self-taught, podcast producer, Despina Kanakoglou. This podcast sees Despina hold a range of conversations with special guests from a variety of backgrounds covering topics like health, mental health, wellness, science and entrepreneurship. Despina often takes a deep dive into some “heavy” topics with creativity and humor. Far from pretending to have all the answers, she goes straight to the experts for the best advice. A podcast that will inform you, inspire you and motivate you, whether you are taking on a new challenge in life or want to make some lifestyle switches. #giatioxi will make you scratch your head, giggle and walk away feeling smarter!

Danai addresses happiness, self love, grief, loss, social media and many more topics through the lens of her personal experience as a young woman. Listening to Danai sharing her lessons she found in her everyday life challenges, may not solve your problem, but you will definitely feel a little bit better, lighter and optimistic afterwards!

The Foodie Find: The Breadsticks you Need to Step Up your Snacking Game

When tired and bored at my desk, the urge to snack strikes frequently throughout the working day. In an effort to combat emotional hunger, I go crunchy. Lately I am obsessed with TSANOS beetroot breadsticks. They are crispy and thin, lactose and egg free, made with 30% fresh beetroot, 15% Greek olive oil and with no sugar added. They are delicious dipped into hummus or  into an olive paste, thrown into a salad, as well as they could be an excellent addition to your cheeseboard.

If you are looking to be more adventurous with your snacking game, TSANOS has a fantastic range of breadsticks with quinoa and rosemary, with turmeric and coriander, with chia, fennel seeds and wholegrain flour, with olives, as well as with barley and oat flakes.
